Our Story
Cheshire Gun Room began over two decades ago from humble beginnings in John Farrugia’s home based workshop. Through hard work and determination the family business today consists of two retail outlets, an online store, export and international department as well as a devoted gun smithing workshop.
John’s interest and immense passion for shooting and gun smithing led him to work alongside some of the most prestigious gun smiths in the country including Holland & Holland, WW Greener and E.J Churchill.
In the early days a lot of the work involved refurbishing fine English Side by Side guns, exporting them overseas and presenting them at game fairs. Through this high specification work John built a good reputation and a large client base in the UK and abroad. Over the years many of those clients became good friends who John is still in regular contact with today.
The gun smithing workload increased and prompted the expansion from the home based workshop to Johns’ first gun shop in 2004 based in Stockport. The building was completely refurbished with a tailor made gun room, fully equipped workshop, stores and offices.
Over the next few years a wider customer base was established by attending many more game fairs and trade shows both in the UK and abroad.
As the business expanded John’s Son, Johnathan joined him in the business to help expand the retail and online business. Some of the areas that Johnathan developed were Air Rifle, Rifle, Optics and Clothing departments. These expansions now made Cheshire Gun Room a one-stop-shop for every shooter.
The opportunity to acquire John MacNab, a revered brand of traditionally styled British shotguns, was not one John was going to miss out on. Re development of the brand is currently in progress with plans to launch an exciting new range of guns and accessories.
Another acquisition was the Manchester gun makers, T. Stensby & Co who has been manufacturing in Manchester since 1810. John has plans to start production again ensuring the continuation of this well-known maker.
In Late 2009 a big step took place for the company where its second retail outlet would be born. John purchased the building previously occupied by Target Sports of Bolton and opened North West Gun Centre.
Re development of the Bolton store is currently taking place with plans to expand the retail space offering a modern and friendly environment for all types of shooters. There will be a dedicated reloading centre, clothing department and of course a huge display of guns.
John is a very passionate shooter and has a great love for his sport. Therefore Cheshire Gun Room has always been a strong supporter of youngsters and new comers to the sport.
Cheshire Gun Room is proud to have been involved in several charity and fundraising events supporting local gun clubs, Scout Groups and Air Cadets.
In recent years Cheshire Gun Room has seen an encouraging even younger Customer age group arising. Hopefully building a stronger future for all shooters and country sports in England.
